Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival! 2008

Fiber Arts Contest Guidelines

Grand Prize:  $100

  •  Fiber may be hand or commercially spun and/or dyed.  Judges will take into extended consideration handspun and hand-dyed fibers.
  • Submissions may be a commercial or original pattern of the knitter/crocheter/felter/weaver.  However, four points (out of 10) will automatically be deducted in judging the creative segment for all commercial patterns and kits.
  • All fibers are considered acceptable (e.g. cotton, bamboo, wool, etc.)
  • Categories are: garments, decorative arts, personal accessories, jewelry, and miscellaneous.
  • Forms are: weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting, other
  • All submissions must have a securely attached identification tag containing name, address, and phone number of submitter, Category, Form (see above), designer or pattern name; and, if the item is for sale, the amount.
  • Submission must be received by October 10, 2008.  However, PLEASE DROP ME AN EMAIL so that your entries might be anticipated.
  • Grand Prize is $100.  other, non-monetary awards will be given in each Category and Form.
  • Festival committee members and their families are not eligible to participate in the contest.
  • Entry fee:  $10 per entry 
  • Contest judges (appointed by Festival Board) are the sole arbiters of quality, style, and color.  Their decisions are final and not open to debate.  Submission are judged in four segments:  technique execution (35%), compatibility of fiber to design (20%), color balance (20%), and creativity (25%).  Judges have the right to combine categories if not enough entries in any one category are submitted.
  • Registrants are responsible for picking up their garment(s) on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Ruritan Clarke County Fair Grounds in Berryville, Virginia.  The Festival closes at 5 o'clock; garments must be retrieved by 4:30 but no earlier than 3 o'clock.  SVFF is no responsible for abandoned garments.  If this is difficult for you, indicate on your registration form.
  • Every care will be taken with your garments.  However, the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival, its volunteer staff, and associates are not responsible for damage, loss or other harm to your garment.  If you feel your entry has significant value, please insure it properly.
